Speech
Speech
What is your speech? What words do you speak to communicate or express thoughts? What words do you use more often than others? Many use filler words that don’t have meaning. Profanity is useless speech, which has no purpose. Profanity removes the effectiveness of the communicator.
There are other “filler” words used similarly as in:
Like
You know
I’m all, he’s all, she’s all, and they’re all
Uhm, which isn’t really a word.
I remember one time a good friend was driving me home from high school, and he used the word “like” quite frequently. So, I decided to quietly count how many times he said that word during our brief ride home. He said “like” 19 times! When I told him, he said, “Like, that’s crazy!” Do you use, or overuse the above words or others, even the profane ones?
Understand that God’s speech isn’t ever purposeless or ineffective. God’s Word is infallible. He comunicates and expresses all the things that every soul desires, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control which are fruits of the Spirit found in Galations 5:22-23.
On the opposite hand is the speech of Satan, which is clothed in what appears to be good, but are everything but good. We must be on the lookout for that speech and be diligent in not choosing that speech but choosing the speech of God’s Word.
Speech is mentioned in scripture almost 50 times and is surrounded by words like, abusive, unskilled in, hear my, pours forth, bitter, smoother than butter, devious, perverse in, unintelligible, worthless, and similar ones. Others are, slow of, trickle as the dew, trusted ones of, careful to my, skillful, sweetness of, sound in, and more. You get the idea.
What speech do you choose every time you choose to speak, destruction or instruction, effective or ineffective, encouragement or discouragement? What and how we choose to say something or anything (our delivery) is equally important as what we say.
When choosing speech today, choose godly speech, which is hopeful and loving. The fruits of that choice will far outweigh choosing not to do so.
