Illuminate Darkness with Light
Darkness is the absence of light. The fall of Adam and Eve facilitated the absence of light immediately after they chose to disobey the word of God. On their own they initially covered themselves and tried to hide from God when they never had to before that time, (Genesis 3:7-11). That one choice changed the course of mankind to be disobedient, disapproving, and disrespecting of the one true God who designed and has dominion over everything we see today. That God then is the same God now and has been giving us every opportunity to shine in the darkness we find ourselves.
When we shine a light in the darkness, be it a closet, outside at night, or in the dark corner of a room, we see more clearly wherever we look. We have more clarity of what lies before and can see a path made clear. In fact, scripture mentions “shine” at least 25 times and “light” almost 200 times. In Genesis 1:3 God saw that the light He created was good!
As it is written, we too are light and are to behave as such in the darkness the evil one schemes to promote and maintain. That darkness is not the absence of God, for He is everywhere. It is the absence of our willingness to shine in it, to it, and through it, with the powerful light of Christ Jesus. By displaying His light through behavior in prayer, study, praise and worship, darkness (the evil one) can not exist.
Be the light God has called you to be. Shine in darkness. Obliterate the schemes and deceptions of the evil one by turning the powerful light of Christ Jesus on him. Be a city on a hill that others can see like a lighthouse in a massive storm. Be the light, not hidden in a basket, but on a lampstand that illuminates the room. Be a light for everyone in your sphere of influence who may be experiencing a dark season.
Revelation reveals that once the earth has been transformed after the Rapture and then Armageddon, there will be no need for light because God will once again inhabit the earth and He will be the only light necessary as He illuminates it all by His glory. How glorious that will be! Until then, shine like Christ Jesus. Without shame and deception, be the light-filled example to others, and be the lovely illumination He is to you. Shine on!
Arise, shine; for your light has come,
And the glory of the LORD has risen upon you.
Isaiah 60:1
“Your light must shine before people in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:16
And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illuminated it, and its lamp is the Lamb.
Revelation 21:23
And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illuminate them; and they will reign forever and ever.
Revelation 22:5
