Are you lukewarm?

Lukewarm

Do you believe in God the Father, Christ Jesus the Son, and His Holy Spirit? If you claim to believe in the triune God, does anyone in your sphere of influence know it? Does your family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, or strangers know it? If so, how? What is visible to them that confirms Christ Jesus is your Lord and Savior?

Conversely, if you are not, how do they know that? What behavior is displayed that either confirms or denies you have Christ Jesus in your heart? Is how you behave dependent on your audience? We all can certainly see a lot of audience-depending behavior today!

In John 15:5 and John 15:8, scripture tells us clearly that apart from God, we can do nothing. We can not bear spiritual (eternal) fruit. Without proving we are His disciples, we are not able to further His kingdom. Please understand that His will be done. And as the last words Christ Jesus spoke on the cross before death was “Telestai.” It is finished.

We can either choose to follow Him and His glorious examples of godly behavior, or we can refuse and lean on our own understanding to placate both ourselves and whatever audience we are looking to please at the time. The result of the latter is death, most assuredly. How do we know this? Because in the book or Revelation, Christ Jesus coaches and counsels the 7 churches that existed at that time. All received positive and negative evaluations but none as scathing as the church of Laodicea.

The church of Laodicea was initially praised by Christ Jesus. However, the truth was that this church had grown impotent. It had become luke warm, lacking conviction, and was neither pursuing Christ Jesus nor pushing Him away. It was a church that was blowing like the wind to and fro, depending on what the flavor-of-the-month was currently. Like weak people who only want to please others on the basis of those other’s beliefs, no matter how apart that belief is from God.

What was the reaction of Christ Jesus to this church, its people, and their behavior? Revelation 3:16 reveals, “So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will vomit you out of My mouth.” What is your reaction to Christ Jesus vomiting you out because of your flavor-of-the-month belief, swaying to and fro like the wind instead of taking a stand for Him, His love, and abiding in His will? Would you like Christ Jesus to vomit because of your lukewarm belief?

We are to pursue Christ Jesus every moment of every day for the rest of our lives. Be Christ Jesus to everyone in our sphere of influence all the time and without compromise. We may be the only Jesus a person sees that day. So, why not stand firm in the faith like men as 1 Corinthians 16:13, Ephesians 6:11, and Ephesians 6:13 command us?

Don’t be a lukewarm disappointment to Christ Jesus, causing him to vomit you out of His mouth. Be to others as He has been to you, gracious, merciful, loving, sincere, honest, and with utmost integrity. Behave like Christ.
