Needs versus Wants
Determining which is which can be a successful tactic for managing finances. Differentiating what we truly need is fairly easy. It is air to breath, food, water, shelter, the company of others, and companionship. Some may not agree that they need God, but every soul does.
Wants are things we don’t need but are things we think we need or deserve like a fancy car, a big house, designer clothes, a high-profile career or endless temporary things that don’t last but bring us temporary happiness. They don’t bring us true joy eternally.
God, our Lord and Savior, needs nothing because He created everything. God has no need for air. We do. God has no need for food. We do. God doesn’t need water. We do. God doesn’t need shelter for protection. We do. God doesn’t need companionship either. He wants it with us.
He wants fellowship with us. He wants us to turn away from the things we think we need and turn towards Him and seek His desires for us. He wants us to choose Him in every circumstance He allows, no matter how difficult it may seem to us. He wants us because He loves us.
Have you ever been loved by someone that you didn’t love back? Have you ever loved another only to have them not return that love you gave? This is what we do to God every time we don’t choose Him. He is everywhere in, around, and through our lives. He is there for us because He loves us. He is also a jealous God not wanting us to forsake Him and His love for us for other people or possessions like a fancy car, a big house, designer clothes, a high-profile career or endless temporary things that don’t last but bring us temporary happiness and don’t bring us true joy eternally.
God wants us. God loves us, every single soul. He wants you. He won’t make you love Him, but He wants you to love Him and on His terms. A God who needs nothing because He is so powerful and simply wants us should humble us to come to Him, have a relationship with Him, and love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. After all, He created all those things and so much more. He wants nothing else but you.
