Joyful
Joyful
Joy appears in the bible almost 200 times. Joyful appears almost 60 times. However, the words “joy” and “joyful” appear in the same verse together just 8 times. Joy is something God wants us to experience and often! Because this life is difficult enough and the joy we experience through Him is everlasting.
How do we experience joy and joyful in scripture? We are made joyful by what He has done. We are filled with joy by His hand and joyfully shout in praise of His name and His deeds. There are so many things He has done, and our joy should always be present. Even in times of trials, strife, pain, and suffering, what God has done for us, and to the depth and degree that He loves us doesn’t change. We can be joyful through the tears because He is Lord of all and doesn’t change a bit in our circumstances. So be joyful and see the joy in all He has done, is doing, and will do in our lives and the lives of others.
The verses below reveal the joy we have and should express it.
Shout for joy, you heavens! And rejoice, you earth! Break forth into joyful shouting, mountains! For the LORD has comforted His people
And will have compassion on His afflicted.
Isaiah 49:13
And the redeemed of the LORD will return
And come to Zion with joyful shouting,
And everlasting joy will be on their heads. They will obtain gladness and joy,
And sorrow and sighing will flee away.
Isaiah 51:11
For You, LORD, have made me joyful by what You have done, I will sing for joy over the works of Your hands.
Psalm 92:4
Boast in His holy name; Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be joyful.
1 Chronicles 16:10

Isaiah 66:10
Dr. David Jeremiah provides an exercise that results in joy with a joyful noise of thanks and praise to the Lord. I encourage taking a brief few minutes and try this. It might not solve a problem, but it will afford joy and joyfulness within it.
“As we inch closer to the birthday of our Savior, write out, as a family, a list of the things you are joyful for. Although it may be hard amongst the busyness of the season, take some time to sit down and really contemplate what “joy” is in your life. Perhaps you’re joyful for good health, a new job opportunity, or an impending graduation. Whatever falls on your list, thank God for it all.”
Dr. David Jeremiah
Alleluia! O how the angels sang. Alleluia! How it rang!
And the sky was bright with a holy light, ’Twas the birthday of a King.
From the song, “The Birthday of a King”
