Light and dark

Have you ever looked up at the clear sky at night and taken in its infinite darkness? If it is overcast, the clouds are difficult to see or make out their shapes. In World Wars the searchlight was a new technology that lit up the sky wherever they were shone to reveal enemy aircraft flying overhead. Flares were used as well, that would literally light up the sky and earth where they fell. Later, the searchlight was a form of advertisement that would shine from a location where items were sold.

When it was dark and those searchlights scanned the cloudy skies, you could see the clouds much clearer, because the dark cannot sustain in light. The flares made the ground visible like in daylight for a brief period, and one could see hundreds if not thousands of feet around them.

Undoubtedly, you see the darkness of evil in this world. It has been around for thousands of years and has appeared to be increasing rapidly most recently. Your world may feel or seem even darker than that from depression, unforgiveness, hopelessness, and without rest. Understand this, all you see, experience, and are exposed to is because God allows it and governs over it. He created all things and is in control of all things. In fact, all things are possible through Christ Jesus. Not just your experience, but all things. (Matthew 19:26)

He is the light of the world. He is our fortress, our refuge, our redeemer and protector in all circumstances. He is light, love, compassion, and comfort. He is also the evil one’s enemy, who flees from light, truth, and His Word. (Luke 4:1-13) Like the searchlight and the flare, God’s Word dispels darkness. Darkness can’t exist where there is light. Light illuminates so we can see evil flee, what is happening, where we are, where we are going, and the path we are following.

Let His light shine in you, your life, and illuminate your path. Follow His light, for He is leading you safely, securely, and brightly. Allow Him to illuminate your soul while dispelling the darkness you have there. Let Him work through you to push the darkness away and keep it away.

Dark, evil, sin, and pain creep in and around the perimeters of your soul. It pokes and prods in different areas to find a weak spot where it can penetrate your life. Run to the light of God. Shine the light of God on it. Be the light of God toward others and their path, just as He has brightened yours.
