Communication Breakdown

This is the song by the rock band Led Zeppelin about a man who can’t put into words how he feels about a woman. Sound familiar? Every soul has experienced this dilemma in some form or another and at some time or another. Communication can be defined as the exchange of thoughts, messages, or information, as by speech, signals, writing, or behavior. Conversely, its breakdown can mean just the opposite.

Is there someone in your life where a breakdown of communication has grown so much that no communication exists? Is there a person so close to you that communicating with them should be very easy and yet never happens? After careful analysis, what is it you discover that caused or is causing that communication breakdown?

As followers of Christ Jesus and therefore disciples of His behavior, words, and deeds, we are required to be the ones who repair and restore the reestablishment of clear lines of communication. We are the chosen ones to communicate to all souls within our sphere of influence the love Christ Jesus has to us, in us, and through us.

God, Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are available for us to navigate through the at times disappointing and even treacherous territory of breakdowns in communication. Who better to help than the creator of all things, including communication itself? He is the way, the truth, and the life! No one comes to the Father or the great communicator of love and peace, except through Christ Jesus Himself. (John 14:6)

Be the light on a lampstand (Luke 11:33); Be the city on a hill (Mattew 5:14) in every breakdown in communication. Please don’t let the communication breakdown break a single relationship in your life. Don’t allow it. Don’t accept it.

Seek God’s counsel from scripture, His loving examples, and His commands to be the one who doesn’t tolerate communication breakdowns in any relationship. Offer up His loving kindness. Come to the table with the grace and mercy Christ Jesus has revealed to you. Adhere to the prompting of the Holy Spirit to set aside yourself to allow Himself to reestablish communication.

See the end vision, the end result of doing that one simple thing timely and selflessly, with intention and humility. The outcome just might be better than any outcome you could fathom, especially if the outcome is orchestrated by God and the infinite power and sovereignty He is. Eliminate any and all communication breakdowns, and do it today, right now.

God is a communicating being.
