Good Will
Good Will
These two words put together speak of kind benevolence, favor, and a willing effort. It can be either a response to or an initiated act. However, separating these two words is when a reward can be expected. Good will come.
In scripture, these two words are used hundreds of times because being good, behaving well, and focusing on good has its rewards. Scripture reveals that good will result in benefits. Within itself, good knows no boundaries or limits. Good is a demonstration of love. Good is the manifestation of love. Good is the result of selflessness and sacrifice. Doing good for another minimizes the focus one has on themselves and shifting that focus to another. This behavior has a measurable benefit.
Psalm 112:5 clearly states, “Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice.” Are you generous? Do you lend freely? Are you conducting your affairs with justice? Or do you harbor anger toward one’s you’ve been generous to or loaned money? Do you conduct your affairs withholding justice? It is clear that we are to behave in the former rather than the latter.
We may deem another person we give generously to or loan to, or conduct affairs with as unworthy or undeserving (think unserving), but aren’t we in that same lot when it comes to Christ Jesus? Aren’t we ourselves unworthy of His generosity, grace, and mercy? Even so, He continues to give freely of Himself. This is what we must do also.
To demonstrate the good will of Christ Jesus toward others is to behave as He does toward us. Good will come to us. Good will be with us. The goodness of God will surround us when we behave as we are commanded.
