Spacious Places

Who doesn’t desire spacious places? Have you ever experienced the Grand Canyon, Alaska, the Rockies, the Blue Ridge Mountains, Death Valley, or even oceans and beaches? These are spacious places. Many folks are born, live, and die without ever experiencing these spacious places God has carved out for us to enjoy and steward well.

Neighborhoods cramped into shanty towns, on-post military housing, and even prisons are certainly not considered spacious places. They may cover a lot of space, even many square miles of space, but the quarters within which folks live are very, very limited regarding space. These kinds of spaces can be difficult to thrive on our own.

However, even if you’ve never seen or experienced spacious places, God allows limitless opportunities to experience His spacious places within His Word. “Spacious” is mentioned in scripture infrequently, but mostly regarding land. There is a sense of peace about spaciousness and the expanse of land. In fact, God has created it, and repeatedly, God has given it.

Although we may exist and live in a space no one would consider “spacious,” we do have the opportunity to take advantage of the spaciousness God affords within us. God is limitless. God is timeless. God is eternal. Therefore, through Him, we can be limitless, timeless, and eternal.

How is that even possible? Well, it isn’t if we are constantly focused on our limitations, our demanding schedule, and the here and now of a fallen world. We won’t see the forest for the trees, even though we may be standing in a most beautiful spacious place.

We won’t see it if we don’t focus on it. We will see that which our focus is. God wants and desires our primary focus, our first focus, and all our focus to be on Him. He can then give us the spacious place and perspective we need to successfully navigate the limits of this mortal life. So, let go of the limitation of space either you or someone else has placed upon you. See the limitless of God, His Word, His Son, and the Holy Spirit. Look for Him in every circumstance, every experience, and within every thought.

Without God, we lack everything. With God, we lack nothing.ย

When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; he brought me into a spacious place. The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
