Opposites Attract

Opposites attract

This is most commonly used within romantic compatibility, where our differences can have the ability to draw us together and keep us together. Although not all psychologists agree, this characteristic has been proven in science as well. My limited experience with over three decades of blessed matrimony definitively proves to me that opposites not only attract, but they can be compatible with and through the power of God, Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

Scripture presents, in Galations, that opposites not only do not attract, they are wholly and entirely incompatible. The two opposites are the Spirit and the flesh. One is birthed in a sin-filled world where debauchery, deception, demoralization, wickedness, pride, accusation, thievery, and the like flourish like there’s no tomorrow. That, of course, is the flesh, the tangible. Everyone is born in it, posseses it, bathes in it, and may feel trapped by it their entire lives.

The other is the Spirit, the intangible. The spirit is within and a gift from God by way of Christ Jesus. The triune God has always existed, for He is God (Genesis 1:26), and exists this very day and will continue to be. Once a believer comes into faith of God, Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit is imparted and becomes an inhabitant within us. Amazing, right? Yes! We are led by the Holy Spirit, guided by the Holy Spirit, spoken to by the Holy Spirit, and protected by the Holy Spirit. This is all, of course, if we believe, and then if we pay attention.

Not all believers pay attention to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, the examples of Christ Jesus, or God’s Word. When we don’t, we are therefore incompatible with Him and His will for us. We are acting in opposition of God, Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit when we dont obey or abide. Instead, we are in and all about the flesh, the natural and not the supernatural. Which, as scripture reminds us, is where the real battle resides (Ephesians 6:11-17).

At the tip of every moment of every day in every week through every year and throughout our entire lives, we have limitless opportunities to be in opposition to God, Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit through the flesh.

Conversely, at the tip of every moment of every day in every week through every year and throughout our entire lives, we have limitless opportunities to be in alignment with God, Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit without the flesh. Let’s decide today for the rest of our days to be in alignment and not in opposition to Him. Opposing God isn’t attractive.
