A Lifestyle of Mistakes
Have you ever made a mistake? Have you made a bad choice, errored in a decision, or harmed someone by a choice you made? With each and every person that ever breathed a breath, the answer shouldn’t be just an emphatic “Yes,” but truly, “and how many?”
We all have made mistakes through bad choices or errors in decision making that harmed (or will harm) others. We achieve this result of a bad choice, resulting in a mistake, because of at least two things, either we make a decision without praying first, or we make a decision without gathering all the facts first.
Why wouldn’t we pray about everything from the smallest of decisions to the largest, or over the smallest of crises to the largest as Ephesians 4:6 instructs so clearly? Why wouldn’t we vet out all variables before deciding to act on anything? If we would do those two simple things before making a decision, any decision, our decisions wouldn’t be mistakes nearly as much. Decisions due to poor judgment, pride, or because of selfishness are also included here. They, too, are a result of either a lack of prayer, understanding all the facts, or both! Those poor decisions resulting in mistakes can become a series of poor behavior, resulting in a legacy of mistakes.
Why would anyone desire to have and live in a legacy of mistakes? Those who are opposed to, or choose to run the complete opposite direction of God, Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, that’s who. We have the opportunity and the ability to choose each moment what we will say, what we will do, where we will go, and how we will behave. When we choose to seek Him in prayer first and foremost as we go into the decision-making process, his guidance, be it immediate or on a different schedule than ours, is the only answer we will ever need.
