Being Intentional
What are you intentional about? Collecting the most possessions? Gathering wealth? Reaching the summit of Everest or the corporate ladder? At the end of the day, you can’t take any of those things with you. You’ll never see a hearse pulling a U-Haul trailer! You could also be intentional at keeping your feelings, hurts, and emotional scars hidden inside you, resulting in a self-manufactured, fractured behavior. Either way, the path we take is our own choice.
Choose your Attitude
An attitude can be defined as how we think, feel, or behave. This is the result of how we interpret the world. Do we see it as a series of unfortunate events by how all things and experiences affect us, or do we see it as a series of opportunities to learn, grow, and become better and stronger for others? Whereas gratitude can be defined as the state of being grateful, thankful. This is a choice we have each moment of our lives to recognize the blessings we have received or ignoring them as we continue the path of self-promoting behavior in all things.
Which would you think is better for your friends, family, and your own physical health? Which would you think would result in a better life?
Attitude of Gratitude
Christ Jesus demonstrated gratitude at every moment, and He literally had the burden of all mankind’s sin weighing upon Him. He knew what God had in store for Him, and He knew the price He was going to pay. Yet, Christ Jesus behaved graciously and thankfully towards all those He knew, even those who desired Him dead.
We will never have that depth and width of fate, responsibility, and consequence within our lives. However, God desires we choose that self-sacrificing path. Why? Because He loves us so much, He did that for us. In turn, we are to love others so much that we are willing to sacrifice for them while maintaining an attitude of gratitude.
You may not think you can do this on your own. You’d be right! This behavior wouldn’t exist without the proper examples Christ Jesus provides us page after page in scripture. From the OT as an angel of the Lord to the NT as the son of God, Christ Jesus lights the way we must go.
What choice will you make?
So the next time you have a choice to make, and that is most likely right now, what choice will you make, self over others, or others over self? The former is death. The latter is life, His eternal life to you, in you, and through you right now. You receive this freely from Him, and you must freely give that to others in your sphere of influence. Have an attitude of gratitude.
For from Him, and through Him, and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.
Romans 11:36
Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Whatever you do in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
Colossians 3:16-17
