Flying Solo
Flying solo
This one act can mean a pilot must not only be able to fly and navigate the machine in a competent manner, but they also have to be able to cope with unpredictable developments like mechanical failure, bad weather etc. on their own and without advice from other sources. (Wikipedia) Flying solo can also mean to do something without the aid or supervision of someone else.
When a pilot flies solo, even though they are alone in the aircraft, they are using aides invented, crafted, built, and provided, by someone else and in some cases hundreds or even thousands of people. The act of flying solo is executed by a single person, but how they got there couldn’t have been on their own, without help from others.
Living life flying solo is similar in that we may be one person and flying on our own, but we were given by God, birthed by parents, raised by parents, grandparents, other family members, friends, foster parents, adopted parents etc. We may think that we are alone, but that is not how God created each soul that ever lived.
We were never meant to fly solo in life. We were created first and foremost to have fellowship, relationship, and companionship with God. He created every soul as a social being. Of course, we are all different and unique in who He designed us to be. Some souls are shy, quiet, and reserved. Others may be outgoing, loud, and gregarious. Others will have some of those behaviors while lacking others, and still others will be somewhere in between or not have any of those behaviors, but others.
The point is, we were created to have fellowship with each other while having our most powerful and influential relationship with God, Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. This is how we were created, and going against that grain is both palpable and evident. Sure, mankind has tainted that to some degree with stories of going solo as a means of success, self-reliance, self-preservation, self-achievement, self, self, self!
But God’s way isn’t that way. God’s way includes individuals choosing fellowship and friendship over selfishness. We are to give ourselves to Him so He can use us for His glory toward others who will do the same. We are separate, but not to be separated from God or each other. Remember that God doesn’t need us, He loves us and wants us. On the other hand, we need Him. We should seek His will in everything and all things. If we decide to fly solo and without God, our only result will be a life without Him, and that’s a life without living itself and not who God designed us to be.
