Sacrifice and Companionship
These are just two of the many gifts we have received from Christ Jesus. Although He has given us infinitely more, including a life eternal with Him in heaven, sacrifice, and companionship, we are able to give away, as well.
Sacrifice is what we should ultimately be first and foremost to Him who gave it. We should also show others what that looks like to, in, and through us. People nearest us benefit from seeing and experiencing what that looks like demonstrated throughout our lives.
Companionship is when we or anyone in our sphere of influence needs a friend, an ear, or just time spent loving others where we or they happen to be in that moment, season, or time. It isn’t a question of if anyone living will need the love, support, and compassion to or from another. It will always be a question of when.
So, in everything you do, especially within the covenant of marriage, be the one who sacrifices first. Be the one to offer the olive branch first. Be the one who gives away love, forgiveness, time, talents, and treasures away for the benefit of your spouse without any expectation of that in return. When we do, we will be able to see the fruits of that sacrifice and compassion in a multitude of ways.
