What is it that you depend on? Is it a person, place, or thing? Is it an event or circumstance? All these can change with the wind and typically do. Even we do, depending on our circumstance.
We attended a large church in the 1990s. We weren’t active in any ministry by choice and it didn’t bother us. I felt as if we could hide in that church because it was so big. The Holy Spirit convicted me because it was revealed that we cannot hide anything from God. Jeremiah 23:24 proves that,
Can a person hide himself in hiding places, so that I do not see him?” declares the LORD. “Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?” declares the LORD.
I was depending on me and my understanding that I could hide from God, although His presence fills the heavens and the earth. If I think that now, I know it is inaccurate by my understanding. God is clear about that He is omnipresent, He is everywhere. He is omnipotent, He is all-powerful. He is omniscient, He knows all. He sees it all and misses nothing in every moment and in every life. For, My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. PSALM 6
People disappoint, that is what we do and it is never a matter of if, it is a matter of when. I have disappointed others in my life and will again. There is one who never disappoints, ever. Christ Jesus. Jesus is constant and consistent. Depending on and having faith in Him, will result in truth, life and love. That is who He is, and so much more.
Remember this when the lights are off, when you go to that dark place in your mind or life that lacks light. Remember this when you let someone down and disappoint them. Remember Him when a loved one or friend has let you down. Expect it, and return to Christ Jesus in these moments. He will be revealed within it and can deliver you in it, through it, or from it.
Lastly, remember where your treasure is, for there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:21).
Take careful inventory where and how you dedicate your time, treasures, and talents, because this may reveal who, what, and where you depend most.
