Are you building an Inheritance or a Legacy?
GIVE THANKS to the Lord, for he is good: his love endures forever- 1 Chronicles 16:34
Are you building an inheritance (physical or financial) or are you building a legacy (character or values)? Inheritance is something you leave “to” someone. Legacy is what you leave “in” someone. Inheritance brings temporary happiness. A legacy leaves a person permanently transformed.
Inheritance is mentioned in the bible over 60 times.
Proverbs 13:22
A good person leaves an inheritance to his grandchildren,
And the wealth of a sinner is stored up for the righteous.
Inheritance can be good, but does not last forever. It is riches given as a right.
Ephesians 5:1-2
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.
Inheritance is gifts received. Legacy is values imparted. Legacy goes far beyond time. We create a legacy by how we live. What does your living legacy look like? That is how it will impact eternity. How intentional are you today in creating your legacy for tomorrow? If you died today, what would your legacy look like?
I doubt any of is are prepared to die today. If we are given one more day, that means God’s purpose remains in us. How will we spend that day, building an inheritance or leaving a legacy?
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33
