Are you being obedient to His will?
We are instructed in scripture more than once to behave supernaturally. This is not a natural way to behave according to the fallen world’s expectations. We are born in sin, thanks to the doubt the evil one superimposed upon Eve and Adam. Ever since that day, mankind has been natural, shameful, aware of nakedness, and willing participants in the blame game.
Matthew 5:39 provides the supernatural solution to that natural tendency,
I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. —Matthew 5:39
Does that look like natural behavior to you? Nope, no way. Our natural mind tells us to slap back with more intent, anger, strength, and veracity than we were slapped. The result will be for that person to naturally slap us back with even more intent, anger, strength, and veracity. Can you see what happens naturally? Failure. Failure to be Christ Jesus toward them, behaving with supernatural grace, mercy, love, kindness… and… forgiveness!
2 Chronicles 7:14 tells us,
and My people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
Today, we see many folks choosing not to call on God, nor pray or seek His face (looking up). They are living in a perpetual cesspool of wicked choices and ways. As a result, they are not hearing, internalizing, or obeying the word of God. As the verse says, there’s no healing in that.
No matter our circumstances, way back when, the very difficult ones of today and right now, or tomorrow’s, God is good. His word is true, and when we behave as He commands us to behave, a supernatural behavior those called (which is anyone who chooses to follow Him), like Abraham, Moses, Jacob, Daniel, Joseph, and His disciples, etc., He will bless us. He will protect us. He will guide us. Our lives will be transformed to be more like Him experience after experience. Being obedient to His will versus our own, thinking and behaving supernaturally as He commands, will produce spiritual fruit that cannot be rivaled naturally. It’s just not possible without Him.
The next time you are tempted, discouraged, slapped in the face by circumstances, situations, or people, turn towards God, use His examples, obey His supernatural commands and rise above the fray, for He is a loving God, a forgiving God, and a merciful God who wants you to be like more like Him, supernaturally. After all, He created you in His image, didn’t He?
