This house is filthy!
Happy 2025!
This house is filthy! Someone very close to me uses this term, and sometimes it doesn’t always apply because filth can certainly be interpreted differently. The meaning behind this usage refers to clutter, disorganization, and general messiness.
Our homes are the stage on which we host gatherings of friends and family. When we invite folks over, we typically want our home to be fairly clean, neat, organized, and straight. Once the invite has been scheduled, a timer is engaged that constantly reminds us how much time we have until our guests arrive. This timer can be minutes, hours, days, or months. Depending on the time frame usually depends on our level of stress to clean up a “filthy” house.
What are we doing? We are going to prepare a place for our guests to rest, relax, have a meal, or just hang out. We want their experience to be an encouraging one and not one where a guest picks something up from between the seat cushions, from behind a closet door, or in a bathroom, and yells, “What’s this?”
The place we prepare is for them to enjoy, a clean and neat guestroom, a closet, guest bathroom, and the home in general. We want their experience with us to be low-key, stressless, and comfortable for them. This allows us all, both host and guest, to best enjoy the time we have together. It takes work, but it can be a wonderful experience. I know someone who has interest-specific gift bags filled with all kinds of goodies when guests come stay at their home.
Who else prepares a place for you? Christ Jesus! He is preparing a place just for you. The place He prepares isn’t for your spouse, a best friend, or a stranger. He prepares a place just for you. That place will be perfect for you. Perfect! It wouldn’t be perfect for you if it was a place prepared for someone else. No, that will be perfect for them and not you.
So, what kind of a place is Christ Jesus preparing for you? It can be very exciting to think He is doing this for every believer who ever breathed a breath. What would a place prepared just for you look like, feel like, sound like, or be like? What you do today on earth for Him just might have an impact on His preparation of a place for you. What are you doing today, in this very moment, to glorify Him, praise Him, boast over Him, and make Him your focus over and through all of your experiences?
Christ Jesus knows you better than you know yourself. He knows what your perfect self is. Although we aren’t perfect today while living in a sinful world, we can and should pursue His perfection as we transform from who we think we are to who He knows us to be. Complete belief in God, Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit through dedicated and disciplined reading of His Word, praying His Word, and memorizing His Word while engaging both with believers and unbelievers gives Christ Jesus all kinds of ideas about a place He prepares for us. Be who He wants you to be as He prepares a place for you to be with Him.
Scripture References
โDo not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Fatherโs house are many rooms; if that were not so, I would have told you, because I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I am coming again and will take you to Myself, so that where I am, there you also will be.
John 14:1-3
