40% of our happiness is determined by our state of mind.
According to researcher Sonja Lyubomirsky, our happiness is determined:
– 50% by genetics
– 10% by our circumstances
– 40% by our internal state of mind
Regardless of our circumstances, we do have the power to become happy.
Here is how I started taking control of the 40%:
About 12 years ago, after watching the TEDx “The Happiness Advantage” I decided to be intentional to notice the daily things that I was thankful for.
I started ending my days by reflecting on three things that I was thankful for that happened that day.
Examples:
– Found a parking spot
– Got to my appointment on time
– The lady at the checking counter smiled
Simple things, but after a few weeks I noticed a reduced focus on what was not working in my life.
My husband was the first to say it. 🙂
Today, I see that I’m more focused on what works than on what doesn’t work.
