Unwholesome

Unwholesome means unhealthy, detrimental to either physical, mental, or moral health, or well-being, corrupt, unsound, or loathsome. It’s pretty much anything good with an “un” placed in front of it. What is unwholesome to you? What have you done, been, or gone that is or was unwholesome? If you’ve done something, been something, or gone sowhere that is unwholesome, have faith in God, and confessed that unwholesomeness, that has been forgiven and never to be recalled by God again.

What if your choice is to be unwholesome today, right now. That conversation, that gossip you helped spread, what about that? If we choose unwholesome, we are unwholesome, and those around us experience that unwholesomeness in us. Why on earth would anyone choose to be unwholesome? Maybe they’ve been hurt and choose to hurt others. Maybe they are afraid and want to put on an heir of confidence. Either way, choosing to be unwholesome is also unwise.

Whenever we speak, whenever we open our pie hole, whenever we choose to say something, anything, we should T.H.I.N.K. about what we are going to say before a word is uttered:

T- Is it Truthful?

H- Is it Helpful?

I- Is it Inspiring?

N-Is it Necessary?

K- Is it Kind?

If every soul would take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5), as .T.H.I.N.K. lists above, what a different world it be! Our talk would be wholesome. Our relationships would be wholesome. Our experiences and our situations would be wholesome. Try it and see. I dare you!

Unshoelsome appears in scripture just once, but don’t miss it! It is a powerful encouragement written by Paul while imprisoned in Rome around 60-62 A.D. as a warning that we should deliberately and intentionally never let unwholesome talk come out of our mouths, ever. Instead, we should only let wholesome talk come out of our mouths. I ask you, no, I challenge you. Can you commit to and do that today all day? What about tomorrow? What about for a week, a year, for the remainder of your life? When you do, what do you think that will do, and how do you think that will impact others? Go on and try it. I promise you, you and others won’t ever regret it. Be a benefit to those who listen!
