One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple- Psalms 27:4
When we live in someone else’s house, or someone lives in ours, there are house rules we must live by according to the owner. This is obedience. If we don’t abide by those rules, there exists conflict and chaos. Here, David was seeking the place where he could get with God constantly. How challenging this must have been under the old covenant from the OT. Today, under the new covenant, we are able to commune with Jesus everywhere and in every moment, if we choose to do so. He is right here, with you now!
“To gaze at the beauty of the Lord,” is simple. Look up! Look at this amazingly bountiful and beautiful world He created for you. The grasses, trees, leaves, blooms, fruits, peaks, valleys, mountain ranges, jungles, deserts, glaciers, rivers, seas, oceans, sun, moon and sky…Delight in His splendor, delight!
David was seeking His temple, the most holy place where God is. David wanted to rest there. That must have been a challenge then, because today WE are His temple because Christ Jesus is both in us, and He gave us a helper in the Holy Spirit to lead us. Christ Jesus is right here with you! He is preparing you, fortifying you, leading you and loving you. Jesus loves you!
So, be obedient to Him, look for His beauty, and rest knowing our Savior, our Lord and our God is within you right now, guiding you, blessing you, and asking to fellowship with you.
