“Easier said than done” means that something is simple to talk about but much more difficult to actually accomplish. It first appeared in print in the 1483 book “Vulgaria” by Terentius Afer, where it was expressed as “It is easyer to saye than to do.” It has been commonly used since the 19th century to describe tasks that sound simple in theory but are difficult to execute in practice.

This phrase is one you’ve most likely said (out loud or not) when a parent,
supervisor, manager, or boss, gave a command, task, or assignment you had to accomplish. Stating what needed to be done seemed to be the easiest part, whereas accomplishing the task, not so much.

Have you ever thought that meeting that expectation was supposed to be easier said than done? Have you ever thought, or had it confirmed, that the parent, supervisor, manager, or boss who commanded this task was doing so to try to teach you something you needed to learn in the process, a lesson they themselves learned and knew from which you’d benefit?

Look at the Ten Commandments from Exodus 20:1-20
1.ย Thou shalt not have anyย other gods before God.
2.ย Thou shalt not make yourselfย an idol.
3.ย Thou shalt not take theย Lord’s name in vain.ย
4.ย Remember theย Sabbath Dayย and keep it Holy.
5.ย Honor your Father and Mother.

6.Thou shalt not murder.
7.ย Thou shalt not commitย adultery.
8.ย Thou shalt not steal.
9.ย Thou shalt not testify orย bear false witnessย against your neighbor.
10.ย Thou shalt notย covet.

Each commandment on their own sound easy, possible, doable, and achievable. However, completing them, obeying them, practicing them day in and day out reveals our overwhelming weakness because we’ve all violated at least a few, if not many of them. And how about the greatest commandment? In one sentence, from Matthew 22:37-39, Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior, the Prince of Peace, Immanuel, the Son of God, said,

And He said to him,ย โ€œ โ€˜YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL
YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.โ€™
โ€œThis is the great andย foremost commandment. โ€œThe second is like it, โ€˜YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.โ€™

Sounds easy, right? Simple. Straightforward. Truth. Given to us, commanded by Him, to execute going forward each and every day and in every situation and circumstance. Easier said than done! But Christ Jesus had already done this Greatest Command didn’t He? Christ Jesus also obeyed the Ten Commandments, too. He authored them because He knows us and the ways we will fail and be corrupted by sin. He knows!

This is why we must be obedient to His Word, not because he’s a tyrant wanting His way, no, because He loves us and knows we will stray. We will stray because that’s what we do. That’s who we are without His love, guidance, commands, and instructions. It’s easy for Him because He is God and He’s accomplished it already. It’s not easy for us because we are not and sometimes struggle.

However, He does allow us to achieve His commands, all of His commands, if we are simply willing to trust in Him, believe in Him, and have faith in who He is. The impossible is made possible. The most difficult made easier. The seemingly insurmountable, mountable. All things are possible with God, all things, including our constant pursuit of the Greatest Commandment, for when we do that, we become less like our natural, temporal, sinning selves, and more like His supernatural, eternal, sinless self. Go ahead, trust Him in all things and through
all things, especially temptation. He’ll see you get delivered in it, through it, or
    from it. ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ

โ€œThis is a book which reveals men unto themselves, not as creatures in bondage, not as men under human authority, not as those bidden to take counsel and command of any human source. It reveals every man to himself as a distinct moral agent, responsible not to men, not even to those men whom he has put over him in authority, but responsible through his own conscience to his Lord and Maker. Whenever a man sees this vision, he stands up a free man, whatever may be the government under which he lives, if he sees beyond the circumstances of
    his own life.โ€

    28th US President
