Gold Pursuits

Gold Pursuits

The “forty-niners,” as they were called, came from all over the world in search of the yellow-colored stone called gold. As few as two to a maximum of 250,000 people descended on central California from all over the world. The gold rush only lasted from 1848 to 1952. With over $2B in gold unearthed, only a very few “struck it rich.”

There is also “fool’s gold,” which is similar to the appearance of gold but is worthless. The gold that lasts longer than any gold ore found on earth and for eternity is the gold found within God’s Word. One might ask, “What’s that worth if I can’t buy anything with it?” The gold found within God’s Word is timeless, ageless, and eternal. The value of the words from God found in Scripture binds relationship ties, pours out limitless love and saves souls eternally, and is beyond any cost that mankind can evaluate or determine. God’s worth created everything worth anything. Mankind’s understanding of value is powerless and bankrupt in the face of God’s power and value.

There are limitless bounties of gold found in scripture, but are we willing to mine for it? Back during the times of the gold rush, people traveled from all over the world in pursuit of an elusive ore that took the very lives of some. They sacrificed their lives for a gold rock. They sourced everything they had just to come up very short.

What is it that you are pursuing that won’t last or by any of your own efforts that will be completely fruitless? The earth has no shortage of earthly desires, just ask Adam and Eve. No, the question becomes what are you willing to pursue that gives the promise of gold that is ageless, timeless, and freely given by the One who created it? Are you committed to the One who is unwaveringly committed to you and just so happens to be the creator of the heavens, the earth, and you?

God’s treasures are beyond measure. Mankind can not adequately estimate the value of the One who created him. God’s treasures have been specifically set aside for each one of us. All that is asked is that we mine for them, seek them, ask God for them, and pray for others to be placed in a position that they too will seek Him. His treasure is ours if we would take the time to read it, recall it, repeat it, and retell it so others can benefit from His abundance as well.
